Ballerinos

Ballerinos reflects the conversation, I had with three professional male ballet dancers. Together we explored their journey of pursuing ballet as a career. A course with many struggles, such as bullying, homophobia and the many sacrifices they had to make in order to achieve their lives dream. Ballet is a delicate, aesthetically beautiful Artform, full of emotions, often still perceived by society as a female dance form. Ballerinos addresses the challenges that come with being a man in a career that is non-conforming to the male stereotype. While in their job they are often appreciated only for their performing capabilities, this film shows the human and raw side of each dancer. Who are you when you are dancing? While talking about Masculinity, Dance and Individuality, they are dancing only and fully as themselves.

2023

Hamburg

The exhibition took place at my University Campus on February 3, 2023. I built an immersive video installation with headphones, so you could see the dancers perform simultaneously on large screens while listening to their stories. There was a small island in the middle of the room with seating arrangements and multiple headphone stations. I wanted the viewers to be as immersed and captivated by the emotional, personal performances as I was when I was filming them.
