“It’s Been a Year” tells the personal story of my journey with Endometriosis, from the uncertainty that lasted an entire year to the moment of diagnosis. That year was marked by not knowing, and now, with answers in hand, I feel a complex mix of sadness, frustration, relief, and happiness. Creating this film allowed me to acknowledge and express my deepest thoughts and emotions. The intimacy and vulnerability of this process have, in many ways, helped to heal my emotional wounds and rekindled my appreciation for my own body. With music licensed from Epidemic Sound, this film was awarded First Prize in the Documentary and Essay Film category at the UE X SONY Kurzfilm Preis.

The abstract imagery is created using analog motion textures that I crafted with water, ink, soap, milk, oil, and ice. I experimented with these moving textures, capturing them on a Canon 5D with a macro lens. The video recordings of my own body were shot in a studio, with assistance from Derek Jasse.
